As part of the Gardens Trust’s plan to become a more resilient and diverse organisation, we are seeking to appoint an audience researcher to design and implement audience research. This will help improve our understanding of existing and potential audiences, allowing us to gain insights into their interests, motivations and barriers to engaging with and participating in the Gardens Trust and its work.
The Gardens Trust is the only national organisation focussed on historic designed landscapes and we champion them through conservation, knowledge sharing, and supporting local engagement. We want to help communities get value from historic parks and gardens as well as increase people’s awareness of them, particularly as many of these face increasing threats to their survival. We believe that the more people who care deeply about these places, the more voices will speak out to protect them when they are under threat.
Audience research and development
To help us achieve this, we have recently been awarded a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant for a project to build our resilience for the future, particularly by improving our diversity and inclusivity. This project will involve supporting the creation of an audience development strategy, expanding our digital resource to reach new audiences, and piloting activities around membership, digital engagement and community outreach, each targeting more diverse audiences. The audience researcher will help us understand how best to do this by looking into our current audiences and exploring how and where we can reach new ones, ultimately informing our overall audience development plan.
