The Gardens Trust has two libraries housed in British universities. Although they are intended primarily for use by students there, they are open for members’ consultation during normal library opening hours. All volumes are indicated with our bookplate, together with their original owner (where known) or donor.
The first is held at the University of York’s city centre site, the historic King’s Manor building. The majority of the collection is held at the King’s Manor Library (accessible during opening hours). A small number of items are in the Rare Books Collection and may be consulted by prior arrangement. The King’s Manor continues to hold our extensive collection of slides, currently uncatalogued.
A at the University of York can be consulted online through the Library catalogue (note that we are still listed under Garden History Society).
Our second collection was based in Bristol, but with the ending of the course there has now been transferred to the University of Bath.
You can search the Bath collection using this link.
We are tremendously grateful to members and their families who have made it possible to offer these books to students of garden history and other subjects. We are happy to receive donations and bequests to add to the collection. If you wish to help add to our collections in this way, please contact the Honorary Librarian.
