Celebrating Edward Kemp’s bicentenary

Edward Kemp was Superintendant of Birkenhead Park, the world’s first publicly funded park and a leading 19th century designer of parks and gardens. Many of his commissions were in the North West. He wrote “How to Lay Out a Small Garden” which ran to three editions.
Elizabeth Davey, local historian will give a talk ‘Celebrating a bi-centenary – Edward Kemp – Landscape Gardener – an Overview.’ After tea/coffee, Cheshire Gardens Trust research and recorders will present Cheshire’s Kemp Collection focusing on how much the aspirational designs illustrated in Kemp’s book became a reality in Cheshire.
The event will finish by 12.15pm allowing attendees to make their own arrangements for lunch.

Walk
In the afternoon there will be a walk round some of Kemp’s Chester commissions. Meet at the Chester side of the Queen’s Park suspension bridge at 2pm. The walk will conclude in Grosvenor Park at about 3.45pm.
