We are delighted to congratulate Advolly Richmond OBE on being recognised in His Majesty The King’s New Year Honours for services to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Horticulture. Advolly is a passionate plant, garden and social historian and this recognition is richly deserved.
Advolly has long been a committed supporter of our work, sharing our belief that historic parks and gardens are not only beautiful places, but vital parts of our shared heritage and wellbeing. This is evidenced most recently by her support at the launch of our latest report, Harnessing Parks and Gardens in the 21st Century, at Red Cross Gardens in London (photo above).
Advolly spoke passionately about gardens throughout history being spaces for “retreat and spiritual healing” and emphasised that they “matter more today than ever.” Her advocacy and support for parks and over the years has greatly helped shine a light on the importance of protecting these green spaces for future generations.

Advolly previously served on our Education and Events committee and worked with others delivering some of our garden history courses, as well as contributing talks to our online programme. We at the Gardens Trust are therefore proud to count Advolly among our friends and supporters, and we thank her for the inspiration she provides to others who appreciate, seek comfort and greatly value the contribution parks and gardens make to all our lives.
Congratulations Advolly!
